For parents

of gender-creative kids

I offer brief consultation for parents and caregivers raising a trans child.

How can brief consultation be helpful?

It’s wonderful when a child feels ready to share a new part of who they are with the world and you. But for parents navigating a child’s gender development, life can feel ambiguous and uncertain. Children explore, play, and try out new identities all the time, but are not ready to take on the intensity of adults’ anxieties, questions, and beliefs around gender and sexuality. The result can look like acting out, but there’s so much under the surface.

Cost and details

Consultation with me is supportive and nonjudgmental. The emphasis is on the concerns and questions that you feel unable to voice. When it can be helpful, I may collaborate with you to address logistical and practical aspects of a child’s interest in trying out a social gender transition, including coordinating with teachers, school counselors, and child therapists.

What are consultations like?

My consulting fee is 500 for 2-3 sessions. I offer a need-based sliding scale.

A consultation is typically 3 sessions, with follow up as needed, and starts with an assessment to ensure that I can be of assistance to you.

I follow the standards set by the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) and the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) around gender-affirming care for minors. You should never feel pressured by a psychotherapist to avoid seeking a medical evaluation for your child. For all medical questions, I refer to endocrinologists, gender specialists, and primary care providers, with whom I communicate as needed to ensure appropriate wraparound psychosocial support for you and your family.
